Bern – Qanbus.infoIn a vibrant cultural atmosphere filled with creativity and a deep sense of heritage, the “Steps to Peace” exhibition in Bern, Switzerland, featured a special event dedicated to the traditional Yemeni instrument, the qanbus. The exhibition ran from April 27 to May 14, 2025.

The event brought together filmmaker and media producer Firas Shamsan, founder of the “Qanbus” platform, and musician and researcher Samir Megrani, a key contributor to the documentation of Yemeni musical heritage. Together, they presented a live demonstration of the qanbus, showcasing its historical significance and unique sound rooted in Yemeni identity.

The event included live musical performances, educational talks on the importance of preserving traditional music, and displays of traditional instruments and images. It also introduced visitors to the Qanbus digital platform, which aims to document, archive, and promote the cultural legacy of this traditional art form globally.

The presentation received significant engagement from both the Swiss public and the Arab community, forming a cultural bridge between past and present, and between Yemen and Switzerland, using music and art as tools of peace and identity.

This event marks a continued effort by the Qanbus project team to revive this traditional instrument and expand awareness of its artistic and historical value.
